If You Are an International Student, You Can Receive Ongoing Support for the Duration of Your Time at Toronto Film School.

Here’s an outline of the type of support at your disposal. You are always welcome to contact your Program Advisor for more information.

What Services and Resources are available for International Students?

TFS has a variety of ESL resources to help you build your English skills and get comfortable with learning in an English environment.  Whether you are looking to improve your conversation skills or get some help building your academic English skills, we are here to assist you.   For more information on ESL support please click here.

If you ever have questions, comments, or concerns about your program during the duration of your time at TFS, you can speak with your program director or your program advisor. Click Faculty & Staff Directory or contact us and we’ll put you in touch.

A peer tutor can support you and help you boost your grades. The Peer Tutoring Program is a complimentary service that is available to all TFS students to help you achieve success in your academic program. Check out Peer Tutoring for more information.

All International students studying in Ontario must be covered by a health insurance plan. As an international student, you must arrange for private health insurance coverage and show proof that you are covered with Health Insurance over your studies at Toronto Film School. Health insurance should cover the costs of medical services, such as seeing a doctor, hospital stays and treatment, examinations and emergencies

You can arrange your own Medical Insurance coverage from home or Toronto Film School offers health insurance plans with Ingle International while you study in Canada. Ingle has many policy options, including 24 hours per day, 7 days per week assistance for hospital and doctor visits, air ambulance, prescription drugs, dental emergencies, assistance with lost documents, interpretation and translations service. View Ingle health insurance plans.

TFS offers several Student Resources that support your Academic Success and help you develop positive study habits and time management skills.

Our Student Success Seminar, an interactive workshop you will take during your first term, will help you develop many strategies to help you be successful in post-secondary school and beyond. You can also speak with your program advisor if you require advice, assistance, or tutoring.

Non-residents will need to apply for a study permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

To receive an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) letter for your study permit application, you will need to pay a tuition deposit of $7,000. This deposit may be lower if:

  • You show proof of deposit and registration in an ESL school in Canada.
  • You have an active study permit currently used for another educational institution in Canada.

You may also be required to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). This process could take some time, so applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as they have received their Letter of Acceptance (LOA), and should not book their airline ticket until they have received it.

If you meet the academic requirements of your chosen program, you will be issued a Preliminary Letter of Acceptance (PLOA).

If you are unable to obtain a student visa to enter Canada, you will be entitled to a refund (as long as you give us written notification before half of the program is over).
