Working Remotely Presents You With New and Unique Challenges and Opportunities
Check out some suggestions below to make working remotely as efficient and easy as possible.
Setting Up
Home Workstation
Identify a comfortable work area (i.e. table/desk, chair, access to Ethernet port)
High speed internet connectivity
Sufficient/proper lighting (for both day and evening classes)
Ensure your work area restricts (or minimize) frequent distraction (such as but not limited to background movements/sounds)
Workstation Must-Haves
Water, snacks, fruits, etc.
Computer/Laptop/Mobile Devices and chargers
Books, material and program specific software
Headphones for listening to lecturers (especially if using a shared space
Remote Access
Ensure you have access to school emails, Moodle and program specific software on the designated device you will be using at home.
Download the Zoom app to your designated mobile devices/laptop/computer.
Check your emails frequently to ensure you do not miss any important communication.
Remote Learning Sessions
- Join class sessions on time (your instructors will take attendance!).
- Ensure that you “join video and join audio” or “call with internet” prior to entering the meeting when using a computer or mobile device respectively.
- Mute your microphone during lecturer and unmute to ask questions.
- Ensure you mobile phones are on silent/vibrate.
- Raise your hand to ask questions.
- Inform your instructors if you will be late/absent for a class sessions.
- Get involved! Active class participation is encouraged.
- Complete and submit all assignment on time.
- Dress appropriately for class.
- Do not join remote classes from your bed or bathroom.
